We had two wonderful sessions this week with visiting American, Betsy Bray, a self-described Beatrix Potter enthusiast. Our first session was for adults at Balmain Library on Tuesday night, which was wonderful for our wind blown, soaked crowd, coming in from the cold to such a warm and impassioned program about one of the world’s most famous and favourite Children’s authors. Of course, Betsy went into other details of Beatrix’s life, including her views on the environment and her sometimes sad, yet productive life. It was ironic that we had the session on Environment Day! The small but happy crowd were treated to lucky door prizes, which included miniature Peter Rabbits and other Beatrix Potter souvenirs. Betsy is a wonderful speaker, it was great to see someone so passionate about her subject.
Then we had a children’s session at Leichhardt, which, unfortunately, I was not able to attend, but I heard that Betsy had a couple of big books to read to the kids and a craft of the one and only Peter Rabbit.
It was wonderful to have Betsy with us. I hope that we will be blessed with her company again sometime.
