Children’s Book Council Awards – Nominations – Review 4

The Last Viking
Jorgensen, Norman and Foley, James
Fremantle Press

For originality, this one achieves full marks. It is a bit long to read to little ones at storytime, perhaps school aged children would like it better. Wonderful use of illustration methods and overflowing with imagination. I can see 6-8 year olds reading this with wonder. This book can be read on many levels. Without giving too much away, you can read it several times and get different things out of it. It is funny, clever and thought provoking. There are lots of things to look at and lots of thoughts to take in. For any kid who likes to dress up and have adventures and for all adults who remember doing so.

For older kids.
