CBCA Awards 2015 – Scary Night by Lesley Gibbes and Stephen Michael King

scary night

I am a bit biased when it comes to Stephen Michael King books, he’s my favourite. Having said that, I will try to be objective. It is a familiar story, I have seen it done in a few other ways, but it is very catchy. It is the kind of book that will have the kids reading along with you because of the repetitive rhythm, rhyme and lines.

It is a book with lots of sound effects and the kids will love that too. It is not really a scary book, it just sounds like one from the title. The “Surprise” at the end will not be a surprise to adults but probably will be to children and they won’t be scared by it, they will probably fall about laughing. This will definitely be a fun one at storytime, though I would not read it at bed time…..even though it is not really scary.

One to enjoy with tongue firmly planted in cheek!
