My Dead Bunny by Sigi Cohen and James Foley – Nomination for Picture Book of The Year

I was trying not to laugh as I read this book, and trying not to rhyme everything during the day after I read it but I failed on both counts. This book is so BAAAAAD that it is good. I would not let it loose on the very young, I would perhaps try older kids on this one. I would not read it as a bedtime story either, the poor kids will have nightmares….I am sure that I will be seeing dead bunnies, cats and dogs tonight. The pictures are fabulous, which of course, is what this award is all about. The words by Sigi Cohen are very funny, and in a complete departure from the previously reviewed, Flight, this is just way silly. It is also very original and you forget that the poor pet has died and in such tragic circumstances. Death is not a laughing matter….unless, of course, you are the subject of this book.

4 stars.
